The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Yard Foreman at our SE Calgary Shop location (8700 Venture Ave SE; not transit accessible). Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, the successful candidate will perform complex tasks in a demanding role. Successful candidates will be accountable for crew supervision and job/task assignment, adherence to Alstar Safety Management System, meeting the daily schedule and production commitments.

The successful candidate will:
  • Organize the crew and determine the jobs/tasks assignment
  • Supervise of up to 10 workers in their department
  • Manage crew requirements (Short Service Worker Program, Competencies and Safety Training)
  • Ensure Quality Management Systems is followed by their workers
  • Lead Safety by example and is a primary focus for them and their teams
  • Accountable for all trends of incidents and alignment with the Safety Management System for their crews
  • Deliver expected requirements to the identified internal and external customers
  • Follow existing work standards and look for further improvements
  • Other duties may apply
  • Daily equipment checks
  • Pipe/Structural loading technique knowledge
  • Scheduling of setting up material to be painted on carts and frames
  • Loading material in a safe / quality manner ( internal / External ) customers
  • Load lists compiled and releasing of documentation

  • Minimum three years relevant experience in leadership role
  • Journeyperson Mobile Crane Operator ticket preferred and class 1
  • Competent with Operating a Crane
  • General equipment maintenance and repair knowledge
  • Computer skills , Excel
  • Valid Safety Tickets (Crane Operator, CSTS 09/20, or Energy Safety Canada Common Safety Orientation)
  • Clear documentation and accuracy an asset
  • Understanding / knowing transportation rules and regulations
  • Light haul and heavy haul knowledge an asset
  • Solid understanding of construction and fabrication processes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to use tools & equipment safety and abide by health and safety rules
  • Fast paced environment
